    Smileys and Emoticons
Smileys (also spelled smilies) and Emoticons are character-based symbols used to express emotion in e-mail or other writings. Smileys are made by using standard characters on the computer keyboard (comma, semicolon, colon, hyphen, parentheses, etc.). This table includes some of the commonly used smileys and was compiled from a variety of sources. The chart can be more easily understood if you tilt your head to the left when viewing.
